Two Nights of Live Candidates Debates – Wednesday, March 31st and Thursday, April 1st

For the first time in WCAT’s nearly twenty years’ as Wakefield’s access television station, they will be cablecasting live candidates’ debates on two succeeding evenings, Wednesday, March 31st and Thursday, April 1st, beginning at 7.00 p.m. each evening.

“The number of candidates in the town election this year is a great opportunity to expand WCAT’s longtime election debate coverage,” said Producer David Watts, Jr.” With the large field of candidates for the three Selectmen seats alone, two nights of debates was the best way to go about it.”

As of this writing, with eight candidates having taken out papers so far for the Board of Selectmen alone, and the limited amount of space available in WCAT’s Studio A, Watts decided to hold three debates in Studio A on the first evening – Planning Board, MGLD Light Commissioners, and School Committee candidates – and the Selectmen candidates’ debate on the following evening at the Galvin Middle School auditorium. The final debates may change depending on the final roster of candidates after the final deadline on March 25th.

The public is invited to attend both debates. Seating will be provided in the front lobby and conference room at WCAT’s studios at the rear of the High School at the first set of debates; plenty of seating will be available in the Galvin Middle School auditorium. The debates will be cablecast live on WCAT’s Government channels and carried at later days and times until the Town Election on Tuesday, April 27th.

Live Election Night Coverage – Tuesday, April 27th

As we have done for more than a decade, WCAT once again is producing live coverage of the 2010 Town Election. With the field of candidates in a number of the races this year, this promises to be a lively program.
The program will be hosted by Kathy Harney, with Bill Carroll and Bob Cunningham providing color commentary and interviewing candidates in WCAT’s Studio A. All the candidates are invited to come down to WCAT’s facility and participate in the program.
